What is the Name/ha Shem of the True and Living Elohim/G-d??? One thing it is definitely NOT is “ha Shem” because that means “the Name, ha Shem”!!! Why would you call HIM “the Name” when in fact HIS Name is YHVH???
HIS Name is NOT: haShem, Adonai, LORD, Lord, or Elohim (G-d/Allah)!!! HE is LORD, MASTER, ADONAI of ALL lords, masters, adonai!!!
YHVH is the True and Living Elohim!!! No one before Him, and no one after Him!!!
This study is to lead people back to YHVH, Mashiyach, and the Written Torah.
Don’t be like pharaoh and find out the hard way, who YHVH is!!!
ha Shem, the Name:
The word “name” is “shem” in Hebrew, and it is first mentioned in TaNaKh in Bereshith/Genesis Chapter 2:11. According to the Bible software that I am using, “shem” is used 865 times in 772 verses.
This is the Strong’s definition:
A primitive word (perhaps rather from H7760 through the idea of definite and conspicuous position; compare H8064); an appellation, as a mark or memorial of individuality; by implication honor, authority, character: - + base, [in-] fame [-ous], name (-d), renown, report.
In my studies, I do use Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance a lot. Strong’s is a great concordance and work, but not perfect!!! Some of the definitions that Strong’s uses are misleading, and I will happily point them out when I come across them.
According to the Bible software that I use, the Name “YHVH” is first mentioned in TaNaKh in Bereshith/Genesis Chapter 2:4, and is used 6,521 times in 5,524 verses.
This is the Strong’s definition:
From H1961; (the) self Existent or eternal; Jehovah, Jewish national name of God: - Jehovah, the Lord. Compare H3050, H3069. This is one of the definitions that is somewhat misleading!!! First of all, there is NO “J” in Hebrew. Secondly, and most disturbing, is how Strong’s refers to YHVH as the Jewish national Name of G-d! YHVH is the Name HE has given, by which ALL people are to know and fear Him by!!! The terms Jew and Jewish were not even around when the Name was given. As a matter of fact Abram was called out of Babylon, the Ur of the Chaldeans. It’s not a Jewish national Name, but an ETERNAL NAME, by which the True and Living Elohim has called Himself, I AM, that I AM!!!
The FIRST mention of YHVH in TORAH/LAW!!!
(Bereshith/Genesis 2:4) These are the births of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that YHVH Elohim made earth and heavens.
The LAST mention of YHVH in NEVIIM/PROPHETS!!!
(Malaki/Malachi 4:5) “See, I am sending you Eliyah (1) the prophet before the coming of the great and awesome day of YHVH. Footnote: (1)Luke 1:17.
(Malachi 4:6) “And he shall turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with utter destruction (1).” Footnote: (1)Zech. 14:11.
My conviction of writing the Name in English is “Y-H-V-H” because there is no corresponding “W” in the Hebrew alphabet. Again, this is my personal conviction, and what I believe is the most literal translation in the English language. I would pronounce it as Yahweh, “Yah-way”. Many dear brothers write YHWH instead of YHVH, while we would both say Yahweh when speaking the Name. I am not here to convince you of spelling the Name in English as YHVH or YHWH, but for you to know what His Name is.
The FIRST mention of calling upon the Name/ha Shem YHVH/Yahweh!!!
THEY DID NOT CALL UPON HASHEM OF HASHEM, OR THE NAME OF THE NAME!!!
THEY CALLED UPON THE NAME OF YHVH, HA SHEM YHVH!!!
(Bereshith/Genesis 4:26) And to Sheth, to him also a son was born. And he called his name Enosh. Then it was begun to call on the Name of YHVH(1). Footnote: (1)The first record of “calling on the Name of YHVH”
Did our forefathers call upon the Name of the Name, or did they call upon the Name of YHVH???
Ha Shem did not appear to Abram, but YHVH did!!!
(Bereshith/Genesis 12:7) And YHVH appeared to Abram and said, “To your seed I give this land.” And he built there an altar to YHVH, who had appeared to him.
(Genesis 12:8) And from there he moved to the mountain east of Beyth El, and he pitched his tent, with Beyth El on the west and Ai on the east. And he built there an altar to YHVH, and called on the Name of YHVH.
Not only did YHVH appear to Abram, but Abram called upon the Name of YHVH, and not upon the Name of the Name!!!
Who appeared to Yitshaq/Isaac, and who did Isaac call upon, ha Shem or YHVH???
(Bereshith/Genesis 26:24) And YHVH appeared to him the same night and said, “I am the Elohim of your father Abraham. Do not fear, for I am with you, and shall bless you and increase your seed for My servant Abraham’s sake.”
(Genesis 26:25) And he built an altar there, and called on the Name of YHVH, and he pitched his tent there, and the servants of Yitshaq dug a well there.
Who appeared to Yaaqob/Jacob, was it ha Shem, or YHVH???
(Bereshith/Genesis 28:13) And see, YHVH stood above it and said, “I am YHVH Elohim of Abraham your father and the Elohim of Yitshaq. The land on which you are lying, I give it to you and your seed.
What did Yaaqob call the Elohim of his fathers, was it ha Shem or YHVH???
(Bereshith/Genesis 28:16) And Yaaqoḇ_ awoke from his sleep and said, “Truly, YHVH is in this place, and I did not know it.”
What does Mosheh, the children of Yisrael, Mitsrayim/Egypt, pharaoh and ALL future generations have in common???
THEY ARE ALL TO REMEMBER THE NAME OF YHVH!!!
(Shemoth/Exodus 3:10) “And now, come, I am sending you to Pharaoh, to bring My people, the children of Yisrael, out of Mitsrayim/Egypt.”
(Shemoth/Exodus 3:11) And Mosheh said to Elohim, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Yisrael out of Mitsrayim?”
(Shemoth/Exodus 3:12) And He said, “Because I am with you. And this is to you the sign that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Mitsrayim, you are to serve Elohim on this mountain.”
(Shemoth/Exodus 3:13) And Mosheh said to Elohim, “See, when I come to the children of Yisrael and say to them, ‘The Elohim of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is His Name?’ what shall I say to them?”
In the verse above, Moshe asks Elohim a question about what he is supposed to tell the children of Yisrael, if they ask of the Name of the Elohim that sent him.
The answer is below, and it is not ha Shem, but YHVH!!! Read verses 14 and 15!!!
(Shemoth/Exodus 3:14) And Elohim said to Mosheh, “I AM that which I AM.”(1) And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Yisrael, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” Footnote: (1)The Heḇ_rew text reads: ’eyeh ’asher ’eyeh, the word ’eyeh being derived from hayah which means to be, to exist, but the Aramaic text here in v. 14 reads: ayah ashar ayah. This is not His Name, but it is an explanation that leads up to the revelation of His Name in v. 15, namely: YHVH.
(Shemoth/Exodus 3:15) And Elohim said further to Mosheh, “Thus you are to say to the children of Yisrael, ‘YHVH Elohim of your fathers, the Elohim of Abraham, the Elohim of Yitshaq, and the Elohim of Yaaqob, has sent me to you. This is My Name forever, and this is My remembrance to all generations.’
YHVH is the Elohim of Abraham, Yitshaq, and Yaaqob, and His Name FOREVER is YHVH, and this Name is to be remembered to ALL generations!!!
HIS NAME IS YHVH, NOT HA SHEM!!!
(Shemoth/Exodus 3:16) “Go, and you shall gather the elders of Yisrael together, and say to them, ‘YHVH Elohim of your fathers, the Elohim of Abraham, of Yitshaq, and of Yaaqob, appeared to me, saying, “I have indeed visited you and seen what is done to you in Mitsrayim;
(Shemoth/Exodus 3:17) and I say: I am bringing you up out of the affliction of Mitsrayim to the land of the Kenaanite and the Ḥ?ittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Ḥ?iwwite and the Yebusite, to a land flowing with milk and honey.” ’
What was Moshe and the elders of Yisrael supposed to tell pharaoh the sovereign/king of Mitsrayim/Egypt???
(Shemoth/Exodus 3:18) “And they shall listen to your voice. And you shall come, you and the elders of Yisrael, to the sovereign of Mitsrayim, and you shall say to him, ‘YHVH Elohim of the Hebrews has met with us. And now, please, let us go three days’ journey into the wilderness to slaughter to YHVH our Elohim.’
What Name did they use, and to whom where they supposed to slaughter to in the wilderness???
HA SHEM, NO!!! YHVH, YES!!!
(Shemoth/Exodus 3:19) “But I know that the sovereign of Mitsrayim is not going to let you go, not even by a strong hand.
(Shemoth/Exodus 3:20) “And I shall stretch out My hand and smite Mitsrayim with all My wonders which I shall do in its midst. And after that he shall let you go.
What does Moshe and Aharon tell Pharaoh???
Moshe and Aharon are faithful servants, and they tell pharaoh, exactly what YHVH Elohim told them to tell him.
(Shemoth/Exodus 5:1) And afterwards Mosheh and Aharon went in and said to Pharaoh, “Thus said YHVH Elohim of Yisrael, ‘Let My people go, so that they keep a festival to Me in the wilderness.’ ”
Please notice, they use the Name of YHVH!!!
(Shemoth/Exodus 5:2) And Pharaoh said, “Who is YHVH, that I should obey His voice to let Yisrael go? I do not know YHVH, nor am I going to let Yisrael go.”
Pharaoh does not say who is ha Shem, but who is YHVH. He even has the audacity to say I do not know YHVH!!!
Pharaoh found out who YHVH was, and so will the rest of the world!!!
(Shemoth/Exodus 5:3) And they said, “The Elohim of the Hebrews has met with us. Please, let us go three days’ journey into the wilderness and slaughter to YHVH our Elohim, lest He fall upon us with pestilence or with the sword.”
What about the 3rd Word, or as most mistakenly call it the 3rd Commandment???
(Shemoth/Exodus 20:7) “You do not bring(1) the Name of YHVH your Elohim to naught, for YHVH does not leave the one unpunished who brings His Name to naught. Footnote: (1) Or lift up, or take.
First off, it does not say NOT to say or use His Name. It definitely does not say to substitute ha Shem for YHVH, either!!!
Some examples of using His Name, YHVH, in vain by profaning it:
Giving an oath in the Name of YHVH, and then backing out, or lying while using the Name of YHVH is an example of breaking the 3rd Word!!!
(Wayyiqra/Leviticus 19:12) ‘And do not swear falsely by My Name and so profane the Name of your Elohim. I am YHVH.
If you are doing things that are contrary to Torah, but continue to say that YHVH is your Elohim, that is another example of profaning His Name!!!
(Wayyiqra/Leviticus 20:1) And YHVH spoke to Mosheh, saying,
(Leviticus 20:2) “Say to the children of Yisrael, ‘Any man of the children of Yisrael, or of the strangers who sojourn in Yisrael, who gives any of his offspring to Molek, shall certainly be put to death. The people of the land shall stone him with stones.
(Wayyiqra/Leviticus 20:3) ‘And I, I shall set My face against that man, and shall cut him off from the midst of his people, because he has given of his offspring to Molek, so as to defile My set-apart place and to profane My set-apart Name.
Wayyiqra/Leviticus 22, chapter deals with how the Name of YHVH is profaned, and it is not by saying or using the Name, but by walking contrary to YHVH’s Torah and commandments!!!
Wayyiqra/Leviticus Chapter 22 has many Mitzvahs, that if broken would profane the Name of YHVH!!!
(Wayyiqra/Leviticus 22:31) “And you shall guard My commands and do them. I am YHVH.
(Wayyiqra/Leviticus 22:32) “And do not profane My set-apart Name, and I shall be set-apart among the children of Yisrael. I am YHVH, who sets you apart,
(Wayyiqra/Leviticus 22:33) who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim, to be your Elohim. I am YHVH.”
Stealing, which is a direct violation of the 8th Word/Commandment, would be profaning the Name of our Elohim, YHVH!!!
(Mishle/Proverbs 30:9) Lest I become satisfied and deny You, And say, “Who is YHVH?” And lest I be poor, and steal, And seize the Name of my Elohim.
The book of remembrance, and what Name are we supposed to think upon?
(Malaki/Malachi 3:16) Then shall those who fear YHVH speak to one another, and YHVH listen and hear, and a book of remembrance be written before Him, of those who fear YHVH , and those who think upon His Name.
The ones written in the book of remembrance are those that fear and think upon the ONE Named YHVH!!!
(Malaki/Malachi 3:17) “And they shall be Mine,” said YHVH of hosts, “on the day that I prepare a treasured possession. And I shall spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.
(Malaki/Malachi 3:18) “Then you shall again see the difference between the righteous and the wrong, between one who serves Elohim and one who does not serve Him.
Some other verses in TaNaKh which tell us HIS Name is YHVH!!!
(These verses are just a few, and I did not include every verse that shows that His Name is YHVH!!!)
(Shemoth/Exodus 15:3) “YHVH is a man of battle, YHVH is His Name.
(Wayyiqra/Leviticus 24:16) ‘And he who blasphemes the Name of YHVH shall certainly be put to death, and all the congregation certainly stone him, the stranger as well as the native. When he blasphemes the Name, he is put to death.
(2 Shemuel/Samuel 6:2) And Dawid rose up and went with all the people who were with him from Baal Yehudah, to bring up from there the ark of Elohim, that is called by the Name, the Name YHVH of Hosts, who dwells between the kerubim.

(1 Melakim/Kings 18:24) “And you shall call on the name of your mighty one, and I, I call on the Name of YHVH. And the Elohim who answers by fire, He is Elohim.” So all the people answered and said, “The word is good.”
(2 Dibre ha Yamim/Chronicles 2:4) see, I am building a House for the Name of YHVH my Elohim, to set it apart to Him, to burn before Him sweet incense, and for the continual showbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the Sabbaths, and on the New Moons, and on the appointed times of YHVH our Elohim. This is for Yisrael forever.
(2 Dibre ha Yamim/Chronicles 14:11) And Asa called to YHVH his Elohim, and said, “YHVH, there is no one but You to help between the mighty and the powerless. Help us, O YHVH our Elohim, for we rest on You, and in Your Name we go against this crowd. O YHVH, You are our Elohim, do not let man prevail against You!”
YHVH wants us to sing His Name out LOUD, YHVH!!! Our official Song Book Praises YHVH!!!
The Name of YHVH is used 687 times in 624 verses in the Book of Tehillim/Psalms!!! It seems that YHVH wants us to sing His Name out loud!!!
(Tehillim/Psalms 8:1) O YHVH, our Master, how excellent is Your Name in all the earth, You who set Your splendour above the heavens!

(Mishle/Proverbs 30:9) Lest I become satisfied and deny You, And say, “Who is YHVH?” And lest I be poor, and steal, And seize the Name of my Elohim.

After reading the irrefutable evidence of the Name of the True and Living Elohim, I hope and pray that you will forsake the teachings and traditions of men that contradict the Written Torah of YHVH!!! Torah plainly teaches that Abraham, Yitshaq, and Yaaqob all called upon the Name of YHVH, and that Moshe knew and called his Elohim, YHVH, and was even instructed to tell the children of Yisrael that YHVH sent him to them. The Name of YHVH is used over 6,000 times in TaNaKh. Our forefathers and ancient believers in YHVH, along with many other righteous Torah observant men and women throughout history have and will call upon ha Shem YHVH, the Name of Yahweh!!!
May YHVH have mercy upon us, as we seek Him with the whole heart, and get back to the ancient paths:
(Yirmeyahu/Jeremiah 6:16) Thus said YHVH, “Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; and find rest for yourselves. But they said, ‘We do not walk in it.’

May YHVH bless and keep you in the Name (Authority) of Yeshua HaMashiyach!!!
