The not so new “New Covenant” in TaNaKh!!!
First of all let us start off with the word “COVENANT”. Covenant occurs 284 times in 264 verses (according to the software that I used) in TaNaKh (Genesis-Malachi or Genesis-2 Chronicles whichever you prefer). The word covenant is first used in Bereshith/Genesis 6:18 with Noah, and for you sticklers, first used in Iyob/Job??? We will also look at the word covenant in Ketuvim Netzarim (Writings of the Nazarene), also called the New Covenant/Brit Hadasha (Matthew-Revelation).
The following is from Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance:
From H1262 (in the sense of cutting (like H1254)); a compact (because made by passing between pieces of flesh): - confederacy, [con-]feder[-ate], covenant, league.
The following is from Webster’s 1828 Dictionary:
COVENANT, n. [L, to come; a coming together; a meeting or agreement of minds.]
1. A mutual consent or agreement of two or more persons, to do or to forbear some act or thing; a contract; stipulation. A covenant is created by deed in writing, sealed and executed; or it may be implied in the contract.
2. A writing containing the terms of agreement or contract between parties; or the clause of agreement in a deed containing the covenant.
3. In theology, the covenant of works, is that implied in the commands, prohibitions, and promises of G-d; the promise of G-d to man, that mans perfect obedience should entitle him to happiness. This do, and live; that do, and die.
The covenant of redemption, is the mutual agreement between the Father and Son, respecting the redemption of sinners by Mashiyach.
The covenant of grace, is that by which G-d engages to bestow salvation on man, upon the condition that man shall believe in Mashiyach and yield obedience to the terms of the gospel/good news.
4. In assembly affairs, a solemn agreement between the members of a assembly, that they will walk together according to the precepts of the gospel, in brotherly affection.
COVENANT, v.i. To enter into a formal agreement; to stipulate; to bind ones self by contract. A covenants with B to convey to him a certain estate. When the terms are expressed ti has for before the thing or price.
They covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. Mat 26.
COVENANT, v.t. To grant or promise by covenant.
Now that we have an idea about what the word “COVENANT” means, let us get into some steak (Kosher of course) and potatoes (preferably organic) J!!!
The covenants that YHVH made are undeniable and recorded for ALL people!!! The purpose of this study is to speak about the New Covenant that is mentioned in Yirmeyahu/Jeremiah and fulfilled in HaMashiyach (the Messiah). My emphasis will also be on the word “TORAH” which is commonly and ignorantly referred to as “the Law” in most English translations. Torah is not just for the physical descendants of Abraham, but ALL people!!! Torah is YHVH’s righteous standard or mark and how we are to live. If you disagree, you are not disagreeing with me, but with YHVH Elohim and His Mashiyach!!!
As you will read in the following verses, YHVH’s New Covenant consists of putting His TORAH in us, and writing it on our hearts!!! It also reminds us of how everyone has broken that first Covenant!!! These verses speak of a New Covenant to come, and which was already fulfilled in Yeshua HaMashiyach as we will read later. Torah is by no means done away with as is taught by most “Christian pastors” and believed by most followers of “je-zeus”!!! This will be shown later, also.
So let us read about this New Covenant in Tanakh:
(Jeremiah 31:31) Behold, the days come, says YHVH, that I will cut a new covenant with the house of Yisrael and with the house of Yehudah,
(Jeremiah 31:32) not according to the covenant that I cut with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt (which covenant of Mine they broke, although I was a husband to them, says YHVH).
(Jeremiah 31:33) But this shall be the covenant that I will cut with the house of Yisrael: After those days, declares YHVH, I will put My TORAH in their inward parts, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their Elohim, and they shall be My people.
(Jeremiah 31:34) And they shall no longer each man teach his neighbor, and each man his brother, saying, know YHVH. For they shall all know Me, from the least of them even to the greatest of them, declares YHVH. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their Torah-lessness no more.
Ok, so now we know that the New Covenant was spoken of way before in Tanakh!!! Some of you already know this, and some of you are probably surprised to find this out!!!
Does it say that the New Covenant would do away with TORAH, and replace it with pork eating, christmas and easter/ishtar??? NO!!! Does it say that the Feasts of YHVH (Not the feasts of the Jews!!!) and Shabbat would be done away with??? NO!!! More people will find themselves separated from YHVH and being least in His Kingdom because of the traditions of men that have crept into judaism and christianity!!! Let’s put a stop to this madness and get back to the Truth found in Tanakh and Ketuvim Netzarim!!! I walked in error, and repented, and cried out to YHVH in the Name of Yeshua for His Truth, and the rest is history!!!
Let us recap what the New Covenant will consist of according to the Words spoken by YHVH:
1. I will put My TORAH in their inward parts, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their Elohim, and they shall be My people.
2. And they shall no longer each man teach his neighbor, and each man his brother, saying, know YHVH. For they shall all know Me, from the least of them even to the greatest of them, declares YHVH. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sins no more.
Ok, so YHVH declares that Torah would be put in us, and written on our hearts!!! If most christian pastors teach that “the Law” or Torah is done away with, then someone is got to be mistaken. I’ll go with YHVH over the teachings of men, how about you???
Well, what did Yeshua say about Torah??? Let’s take a look at Mattithyahu/Matthew:
(Matthew 5:17) Do not think that I have come to destroy TORAH or the Neviim/Prophets. I have not come to destroy but to fulfill.
(Matthew 5:18) For truly I say to you, Till the heaven and the earth pass away, not one jot or one tittle shall in any way pass from TORAH until all is fulfilled.
(Matthew 5:19) Therefore whoever shall break/relax one of these commandments, the least, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of Heaven. But whoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of Heaven.
Once again christian pastors are teaching that “the Law” or TORAH is done away with, right??? Yeshua says to not even think that!!! Someone is mistaken here, and once again, I’ll go with what Yeshua said, instead of the teachings of men, how about you???
Well, what did Shaul/Paul say about TORAH??? Let’s take a look at Romans:
(Romans 2:13) For not the hearers of TORAH are just with G-d, but the doers of TORAH shall be justified.
(Romans 2:14) For when nations not having TORAH do by nature the things of TORAH, they not having TORAH are a TORAH to themselves,
(Romans 2:15) who show the work of TORAH written in their hearts, their conscience witnessing with them, and the thoughts between one another accusing or even excusing,
(Romans 2:16) in a day when G-d judges the hidden things of men, according to my gospel, through Yeshua HaMashiyach.
(Romans 3:19) But we know that whatever TORAH says, it speaks to those within TORAH, so that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world be under judgment to G-d.
(Romans 3:20) Because by works of TORAH not one of all flesh will be justified before Him, for through TORAH is full knowledge of sin. Psa. 143:2
(Romans 3:21) But now a righteousness of G-d has been revealed apart from TORAH, being witnessed by TORAH and the Neviim/Prophets,
(Romans 3:22) even the righteousness of G-d through faith of Yeshua HaMashiyach toward all and upon all those believing; for there is no difference,
(Romans 3:23) for all sinned and fall short of the glory of G-d,
(Romans 3:24) being justified freely by His grace through the redemption in HaMashiyach Yeshua,
(Romans 3:25) whom G-d set forth as a propitiation through faith in His blood, as a demonstration of His righteousness through the passing over of the sins that had taken place before, in the forbearance of G-d,
(Romans 3:26) for a demonstration of His righteousness in the present time, for His being just and justifying the one that is of the faith of Yeshua.
(Romans 3:27) Then where is the boasting? It was excluded. Through what law? Of works? No, but through a Law of faith.
(Romans 3:28) Then we conclude a man to be justified by faith without works of TORAH.
(Romans 3:29) Or is He the G-d of Jews only, and not also of the gentiles/nations? Yes, of the gentiles/nations also,
(Romans 3:30) since it is one G-d who will justify circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.
(Romans 3:31) Then is TORAH annulled through faith? LET IT NOT BE!!! But we establish TORAH.
(Romans 7:12) So indeed TORAH is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.
What about Galatians??? It is a beautiful book!!! Read it very, very, very carefully!!! It is not trashing TORAH!!! It simply states that NO ONE IS JUSTIFIED BY THE WORKS OF TORAH!!! It does not say believe and break YHVH’s TORAH!!! Remember Abraham, he was accounted right by his faith in YHVH, or justified by his faith in YHVH, 430 years before TORAH was ever given, and even before he was circumcised!!! Did Abraham have works??? YES!!! He did whatever YHVH asked of him!!!
What about Ephesians 2:15??? Anyone can take one verse out of context and build just about any doctrine they want!!! Read the entire chapter and take the verse in it’s context, and you will realize that this one verse does not do away with TORAH, but the enmity that existed between Jews and gentiles, and removes the partition that separated gentiles from Jews in the Temple of YHVH!!! Remember, gentiles were graphed into Yisrael through Mashiyach, and we are now one new man!!! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we are supposed to learn and walk in Torah of YHVH!!! We are now apart of Yisrael!!!
What about Phillipians 3:9??? Again, this single verse does not do away with TORAH, but simply states that we are to be found in Mashiyach, not based on our own righteousness of TORAH, but belief in Mashiyach, the righteousness which is from G-d on the basis of belief!!! Once again, let’s look back to Abraham, Torah did not save him, nor did the act of circumcision!!! It would be like saying that my Bible is going to save me??? My faith in the Author of Tanakh and Ketuvim Netzarim is what saves me, not the Book itself!!! Does this mean that I ignore what He has asked me to do in His Writings, or ignore His TORAH, or worse, willingly break His TORAH and Commandments??? NO!!! If TORAH and circumcision saved us, then we could simply circumcise every person ever born, and give them a copy of TORAH!!!
(1 Timothy 1:8) And we know that the TORAH is good if one uses it legitimately,
(Hebrews 8:1) Now a summary over the things being said: We have such a High Priest, who sat down on the right of the throne of the Majesty in Heaven, Psa. 110:1
(Hebrews 8:2) Minister of the Holy of Holies, and of the true tabernacle which the YHVH pitched, and not man.
(Hebrews 8:3) For every high priest is set in place to offer both gifts and sacrifices; from which it is necessary for this One also to have something which He may offer.
(Hebrews 8:4) For if indeed He were on earth, He would not even be a priest, there being those priests offering gifts according to TORAH,
(Hebrews 8:5) who serve the pattern of and shadow of heavenly things, even as Moses was divinely warned, being about to make the tabernacle: For He says, "See that you make all things according to the pattern being shown to you in the mount." Exodus 25:40
(Hebrews 8:6) But now He has gotten a more excellent ministry, also by so much as He is a Mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises. (See Yirmeyahu/Jeremiah 31:31-34)
(Hebrews 8:7) For if that first was faultless, place would not have been sought for a second.
(Hebrews 8:8) For finding fault, He said to them, "Behold, days are coming, says the YHVH, and I will make an end on the house of Israel and on the house of Judah; a new covenant shall be,
(Hebrews 8:9) not according to the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day of My taking hold of their hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I did not regard them, says the YHVH.
(Hebrews 8:10) Because this is the covenant which I will covenant with the house of Israel after those days, says the YHVH, giving My TORAH into their mind, and I will write it on their hearts, and I will be their Elohim (G-d), and they shall be My people."
(Hebrews 8:11) "And they shall no more teach each one their neighbor, and each one his brother, saying, Know the YHVH; because all shall know Me, from the least of them to their great ones.
(Hebrews 8:12) For I will be merciful to their unrighteousnesses, and I will not at all remember their sins and their Torah-lessness." LXX-Jer. 38:31-34; MT-Jer. 31:31-34
(Hebrews 8:13) In the saying, New, He has made the first old. And the thing being made old and growing aged is near disappearing.
Hebrews Chapter 8 is a summary of all that was spoken up to this point; that is what the first sentence says. Also realize that even at this time the Temple of YHVH was up and running with the priests doing their priestly duties according to TORAH, and yes still sacrificing animals!!! Do not forget that the early talmidim/disciples of Yeshua continued to walk in TORAH and go to the Temple!!! They continued to keep Shabbat and all the Feasts of YHVH!!! You will not find Yeshua or any of those that followed Him celebrating christmas, easter/ishtar, halloween, or any other pagan holiday anywhere in Ketuvim Netzarim, or as most call it the New Covenant Writings!!! Your pastors are walking in traditions of men and the ways of babylon!!!
